As Kabzaa struggles to mint Rs 30 crore at the box office on the 6th day, director R Chandru asks distributors to remove his films from theaters. He also blames Multiplex owners for tampering with the film’s quality which results in poor performance.
‘Remove Kabzaa from Theatres’
For director R. Chandru, by his own acknowledgment, Kabzaa has been a splendid experience. Starring Upendra Rao, Kiccha Sudeep, Shriya Saran, and Murali Sharma in the lead roles, Kabzaa was released in theatres on March 17, 2023. The film was released across 4,000 theatres in 5 languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
In a recent interview, director R Chandru says that the theater owners may remove his film if it is not making any collections. “Almost 3K to 4K theaters are used for screening Kabzaa. Everyone has watched the film by now. I will see the graph where the films are doing well and not. It’s unnecessary, I don’t want to make it 50 days and 100 days, the money invested should come back.”
“I told my distributors on the phone, places having no collection can remove my film. And places having collections may add a few more shows,” adds Chandru.
The blame game
Further, director R Chandru revealed that Multiplex theater owners deliberately tune down the volume of every movie due to expense management. “This might hurt a few people but still I will say this. These multiplex people, when the audio frequency of a film is increased, they get more electricity expense. Ultimately, they don’t want our film to succeed,” alleges R Chandru.
“Having 5% volume for a show, they deliberately reduce it to 3.5%, which makes them save at least Rs 10,000. By just switching off 2 speakers they save a lot of money. This is not some misconception, I have listened to such cases many times. They just want to make benefit by doing this. By next time I will make sure I will get involved in this and try to stop this,” he adds.
R Chandru further revealed what’s in store for audiences in Kabzaa 2. “I will take a short break and concentrate on Kabzaa 2. Work on the script has started. I can promise that it will be bigger and better,” the filmmaker said.
Speaking about the film Kabzaa, its release date was chosen to honor the late actor Puneeth Rajkumar’s birthday. Upendra, Kichcha Sudeep, and Shriya Saran played lead roles, while Shiva Rajkumar played a cameo hinting at Kabzaa 2. The film also boasts a huge supporting cast including Murali Sharma, Nawab Shah, Suneel Puranik, John Kokken, Dev Gill, Kabir Duhan Singh, and Kota Srinivasa Rao.
