Tit-Bit: Mahalakshmi Tiffin Room or MLTR is one of the oldest food points of Bangalore known for its quaint ambiance and past one’s prime food. Located on Dr. DVG Road, near the National college of Basavanagudi, MLTR is a bill-perfect place with an aroma that takes you back to a feeling of good-old city vibes. You might have tasted Vidyarthi Bhavan’s Dose but MLTR’s Dip Vada Sambar and Benne Masala Dose in its old-world ambiance will make you forget Vidyarthi Bhavan if we are not exaggerating.
Quick Bite
Vada Sambar (Dip), Sagu Masala Dose, Khaali Dose, Bonda Soup, Managaluru Bhajji, Benne Khaali Dose, Balekai Bhajji, Uddina Bonda and Benne Muruku.
Sweet Tooth
Kesari Bath, Gulab Jamoon, Carrot Halwa.
What is so Uncommon about MLTR?
The retro ambiance of Mahalakshmi Tiffin room and the redolent milieu of charming old-world will give you an egregious feeling. The wooden door at entrances, the menu on a chalkboard in Kannada, wooden benches, and glass food display makes MLTR look uncommon among others. They have a separate family section and during Weekends, you may have to share tables, probably with a neighborhood good aged friend.
MLTR’s Benne Masala Dose and Extra Chutney
When you are here, start with Single Vada Sambar Dip and straight away go for the Benne Masala Dose. The neatly roasted Dose served with an extra white butter is a perfect mix between VB’s thick Dose’s and thin paper Dose. One thing you love here is the Gatti Chutney (thick chutney), ask for it. The Aloo Palya served here has a heavenly taste which will add to their golden brown layers of Dose. Take a bite of Dose with butter, put Aloo Palya, dip it in Chutney and eat. Ahh, I’m craving for it, right now. Don’t you?
That’s it? No, you have more!
As an evening snack, they serve Bonda Soup and believe me, its taste is beyond your imagination. When I say Bonda soup, the Sambar served is what I look for. It is not the yellow sambar that most restaurants provide. Here, you’ll get the authentic Karnataka Masala Sambar which you end up slurping even after you finish the Vada ball. Mahalakshmi tiffin room is also known for their delectable desserts like Carrot Halwa and Gulab Jamun with which you can end you chow.
If you are an ardent coffee lover then MLTR’s coffee may not limpress you.
