Can’t Put Out The Exact Number Of Casualties On Chinese Side: Chinese Media Reports

In the violent face-off between India and China, while India lost three Army personnel, now the reports coming in suggest that there are casualties on the other side too.

The Chinese propaganda news channel, Global Times put out a tweet saying that they cannot report the exact number of casualties on the Chinese side.

The violent face-off took place on Monday night as the Indian Army released the statement on Tuesday. The meeting between the senior officials is reportedly underway to deescalate the situation. The statement said,

“During the de-escalation process underway in the Galwan valley, a violent face-off took place yesterday night with casualties. The loss of lives on the Indian side includes an officer and two soldiers. Senior military officials of the two sides are currently meeting at the venue to defuse the situation.”

Intensification Of Border Tension

Since April when the Chinese forces tried to advance into the Indian side of the de-facto territory, hundreds of soldiers from both sides have been deployed along the line of actual control. After weeks of intense tension between the two armies, the two sides held talks last week with army chief General MM Naravane said that the process of disengagement is underway. Since then, the forces have been taken aback from the territory.

Meanwhile, the Chinese establishment accused India of crossing the border and attacking the Chinese forces. As per the news agency, Beijing urged India to strictly restrain its frontline troops from crossing the border or taking any unilateral action that may complicate the border situation.

This is unprecedented because the last deaths at the line of actual control were in 1975 when the Indian patrol was violated by the Chinese forces. Before that, a violent face-off had taken place in 1968 in Nathu La.

As the stand-off was moving towards calming off, the government had started the work on the concrete bridge which will replace the existing wooden bridge. The government had made it clear to the Chinese government that will carry on with the border infrastructure development. However, some sources in government also say that China is objected to the bridge because it is doubtful if India’s intent to post the abrogation of Article 370.
