In a very interesting development, Bengaluru traffic police have come up with an idea that will turn the entire traffic pole into green, and red to help commuters have clear visibility. So now on, there are no more complaints about poor visibility.
Illuminated traffic poles
‘The signal lights were covered by tree branches’ or ‘they were covered in the dust’ are no more an excuse to jump the signals. The darling city got its first illuminated traffic poles on Saturday to help motorists have a clear view of signals. So when the time the signal turns either red or green, the entire pole too would follow the color.
According to the sources, a three-meter-long LED light strip has been strapped around the pole, which will reflect the same color of the signal in real-time.
A police officer in Rajajingar told this initiative to be helpful for those motorists who often complain about the poor visibility and forced to drive or stop uncommonly.
“The common complaints from the motorists is that they cannot notice the traffic signal from a long distance or that tree branches cover the signals. Therefore, we are testing it with a lighting pole,” a traffic police official said.
Visibility issues
Several poles in the city have visibility issues, a senior police officer said many others were obscured by tree branches or other obstacles, making it difficult for motorists to spot them on the go.
A similar kind of method was adopted in Mysuru during Dasara where power was drawn directly from the electric pole. However, in Bengaluru, the power will be carried via a battery, DC converter, and a relay box.
For now, the only traffic pole was inaugurated by city police chief Bhaskar Rao on Dr. Rajkumar Road at the entrance of Rajajinagar. The result of this experiment has turned out to be fruitful said an officer from the Rajajinagar traffic police station.
