Bengaluru: Techie From ‘Varanasi’ sets fire to the ‘Kannada flag’ For This Silly Reason

A private firm employee was arrested on charges of setting a Kannada flag on fire over a silly issue in HSR Layout recently. The accused was identified as Amritesh Tiwari from Uttar Pradesh.

It all started around 10.30 pm when some passers-by noticed Amritesh setting the flag on fire in Parangipalya. They caught hold of him and beat him up.


By then, a patrolling Hoysala vehicle reached the spot and took the 30-year-old to the police station.

A silly issue

On investigation, Amritesh said he was angry against the police and some individuals. He claimed he and his friend were beaten up by some cops, who accused them of smoking in a residential area.

“Insisting he was innocent and wanted to protest against the system, Amritesh came near HSR Layout police station and shouted slogans.


Police chased him away, asking him to protest at Freedom Park. An angry Amrutesh tried to burn the flag,” a cop said, reports TOI.

Amritesh, who studied at IIT Delhi, was later released on bail.
