We saw a few incidents recently where the so-called ‘towing mafia’ came into the limelight. One such incident was where the bikes were picked up but not from a no parking place, they were parked in the right spot still picked up.
A video of a delivery executive running was seen in a viral video running behind the towing vehicle to get back his bike being towed away also created a wide uproar.
The situation and the response
Considering these issues, Home Minister of the state Araga Jnanendra on Wednesday announced that the system of towing vehicles in Bengaluru will be stopped until simplified rules are put in place. Mr. Jnanendra held a meeting with DG-IGP Praveen Sood, City Police Commissioner Kamal Pant, and Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, and decided to stop the present system of towing vehicles as of now.
The department would come out with a simplified policy to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and avoid harassment of the public in the hands of towing staff. “The new towing would be more public-friendly,” the minister said in a press conference.
This was also conveyed to the CM Basavaraj Bommai, the new policy would be introduced shortly, after consultations with the Chief Minister, the minister said further.
The police officials have also said that public consultation would be done and things will be done in a smooth manner.
