Bengaluru Railway Station is Ranked 10th in the List of Cleanest Rail Stations in India

Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Railway station or Bengaluru City Railway station which is the central rail hub of the state’s capital is in news for a note-worthy reason. The city railway station has been named the tenth cleanest under A1 category in the country. A release from South Western Railway confirmed the list with seventy-five major stations being categorized under the A1 category. Visakhapatnam railway station tops the list to become the #1 cleanest rail stations in India.

It is said that the stations were chosen based on a process evaluation survey, direct observations coupled with feedbacks from citizens. KSR took the tenth position while Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad and Jammu Tawi nailed the first three positions, respectively.

KSR under the A1 category

Bengaluru city railway station or KSR stood tenth under the A1 category (stations with over Rs.60 crore annual earnings) and no other stations from Karnataka found space on the list of A1 category.

If railway zones are considered then the South Western Railway (SWR) was ranked the sixth cleanest among the 16 railway zones in the country. The first two positions went to The South East Central Railway and the East Coast Railway, respectively.

Swacch Rail Swacch Bharath Abhiyan

The results are based on the survey carried out to assess Swach rail Swach Bharath Abhiyan. It is said that the parameters considered were cleanliness in parking, main entry area, platform and waiting room. On the other hand, direct observation of cleanliness and passenger feedback were given an equal importance to rank the stations and railway zones.

In this context, an assessment report for 407 major stations is said to be submitted to the railways for inspection and survey action. SWR said, “ A final report containing actionable things for each division shall be submitted soon so that the railways can take action for improving the stations.”
