The Ministry of Home Affairs, on Saturday, announced that the lockdown would be extended until June 30th in all the containment zones and other areas deemed for a lockdown by local authorities. The government also announced the phased manner in which activities would re-open across the country.

All the areas outside the containment zones will open up, in line with the SOP’s announced by the Health Ministry. The Center announced that Unlock 1.0 will focus on the economy.

As per the notification, hotels, malls and places of religious worship can reopen from June 8th. However, cinemas, schools, and international flights will reopen only after further assessment. Gyms, swimming pools, entertainment parks, and bars will also be allowed only after more consultations,

No restrictions would be placed on the movement of people and goods within states and also between states. Night-curfew timings have been rescheduled to 9pm – 5am for this phase of the lockdown.

The New Normal

The Government also announced further guidelines with regards to other activities across the country. Some of the norms are: compulsory face cover in public places, social distancing and not more than five persons at shops, not more than 50 wedding guests and not more than 20 people at funerals, Work From Home as much as possible, staggering work or business hours and thermal scanners and frequent sanitization.

In containment zones, the only movement for essential services will be allowed. Exits and entry will be strictly controlled, and there will be intensive contact tracing and house-to-house surveillance in these areas.
