While traveling to Mysore from Bengaluru, make sure that you stop at Kamat Lokaruchi if you want to have a satisfying meal. A part of the popular Kamat’s chain of restaurant, it is located 57 km from Bengaluru at Ramanagara. Indeed, the restaurant looks like an old cottage with tiled roof. It is a rural set up with many thatched huts that serve the purpose of the dining hall.
The restaurant is extremely hygienic and spitting inside the restaurant is strictly forbidden. When you enter the restaurant your ears will be filled by the traditional songs that are playing on the radio. The servers are dressed in dhoti- kurta and Gandhi cap on their head. This site immediately transports you back to a time when people truly enjoyed their life.
Restaurant’s Delicacy
Being a casual dining restaurant that serves a wide variety of dishes from Konkan and Mangalorean cuisine, it is quite a popular refueling stop because of its authentic comfort food. Hence, it has preserved its essence which lies in simplicity, quality food, and customer service. The place’s design takes you back to a different era and gives the feeling of dining in your own courtyard.
Recommended: Jolada Rotti Meal, and Mudde Idli
This is a pure vegetarian restaurant and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a breakfast buffet which has about 8-9 options like Fruit Salad, Idli, Vada, Dosa, and Pongal. Some of the items served at the restaurant which one would not usually find in popular Udupi joints are akki roti, malanad kadubu, ragi dosa, and avalakki bath.
Covering some other dishes, there is Khara bath with coffee or tea, for breakfast, and jowar rotis, puris, channa masala. The meals are a lovely option for lunch. They even have the staple South Indian thali that has everything from kosambari and veg curry to akki roti and payasam.
Unique Décor
The infrastructure of the place is completely rural and it is like stepping right into a set of ‘Malgudi Days’, a popular TV series directed by Kannada actor and director, Shankar Nag, based on the works of R.K. Narayan. In the restaurant, one can find that the onions and garlic and bananas are hanging from the beams of the roof in the old fashioned way. You will find cows being milked in the nearby vicinity, geese and ducks roaming about freely and if you pay attention you will be able to make out various bird calls in the jungle nearby. Truly having a meal here is an invigorating experience.
