Bengaluru Airport Becomes First In The World To Get Internationally Acclaimed ASQ Awards

The Airports Council International awarded Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) the first coveted Airport Service Quality Awards for departures as well as arrivals. The award is certainly highly prestigious as the council picked up Bengaluru from the best airports across the world. The category of first-ever ASQ Award for Arrivals introduced in 2018 was open for all the airports’ world over.

The ACI World also awarded the Best Airport by region/size to the BLR Airport in the Asia Pacific zone in the category of 25-40 MPPA category. The renowned ASQ Award by ACI recognizes the airports worldwide on the basis of a survey on satisfaction of passenger. In 2017, Skytrax adjudged Bengaluru airport as the “Best Regional Airport in India & Central Asia.”

ASQ Awards Celebrate Achievements Of Airports

According to the MD and CEO of Bangalore International Airport Limited, Hari Marar, “The ACI ASQ Awards reaffirm our commitment to provide an excellent passenger experience at the BLR Airport. BIAL is proud of the fact that ACI has recognized our effort in both segments – Departures and Arrivals.”

Marar further added, ”Our Airport is on the cusp of tremendous development and we will continue to ensure our passengers have a superlative experience.” The World Director General of ACI, Angela Gittens said, “The Airport Service Quality Awards celebrate the achievements of airports in delivering the best customer experience and they represent the highest possible accolade for airport operators around the world.”

Bengaluru Is The Busiest South Indian Airport

Bengaluru’s international airport has a stake of both the private companies and the government. The private promoters hold 74% of the stake in BIAL whereas the government holds 26% of the stake. The private companies having their stake in BIAL include Simens Projects Ventures (26%), and Fairfax (48%). The government holds 26% of the stake through Airport Authority of India (13%) and Karnataka State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (13%).

The Kempegowda International Airport is the busiest South Indian airport and is also the third largest airport in the country. Apart from Bengaluru’s airport, the Cochin International Airport was ranked second in the category of 5-15 million passengers for the ASQ Departure Awards. Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneshwar was ranked first in the 2 to 5 million passengers category.
