Narendra Modi on a recent interview with the Bollywood star Akshay Kumar revealed his friendly relationship with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee. He said that Mamata Didi used to send me gifts including two kurtas that she picked herself. However, on 24th April, Mamata Banerjee replied to Modi’s statement. She said that it is in their culture to welcome guests with sweets and gifts, but that does not mean a single vote will be given to the BJP.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had revealed that the Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina used to send him special sweets from Dhaka every year. However, when Mamata Didi came to know about it, she also started sending him Bengali sweets every year,” he added.
Mamata’s Remark
Mamata Banerjee made these comments at a rally in Serampore in Hooghly district against the statement from Modi in an interview. “We Bengalis always welcome guests with Rosogollas and gifts. But, not a single vote will be given,” she said without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Modi later launching harsh attacks at Mamata Banerjee in Bengal, where he followed “speed breaker didi” with “sticker didi”.
“She just puts a sticker on central schemes like free electricity or ration. Just for the people to claim that these benefits are from her state government”. He said at a rally at Ranaghat in the border district of Nadia on Tuesday, 24 April.
What did Modi Say?
Previously, there was a lot of war of words exchanged between the PM and the Bengal chief minister amid the Lok Sabha Elections. In spite of all these previous situations, Modi on being asked about having friends in the opposition party, he revealed,
“I have friends in the opposition also. I have lunch with them once in a year as well. We are connected like a family which you do not see on the outside.”
However, People will be surprised and I should not say this in the election season. It could hurt me, but Mamata didi sends me gifts every year. She still sends me one or two kurtas that she picks herself a year,” says Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
However, after this incident, Congress said that this somehow hints at a secret tie-up between the BJP and Trinamool.
