Why This Village In India Is Praying For Shehbaz Sharif, Who Will Be The Next PM Of Pakistan

Imran Khan was removed from his office as Pakistan’s Prime Minister after losing a no-confidence vote in the national assembly. Now, the brother of three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz, is the main candidate to replace Khan.

Prayers from India?

Amid the political turmoil in Pakistan, PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif has designated himself for the post of prime minister after the removal of Imran Khan. The next prime minister will be elected when the National Assembly summons at 2 pm today. Also in the running for the PM post is Shah Mahmood Qureshi, fielded by Imran Khan’s PTI party.

Meanwhile, an Indian village is praying for Shehbaz Sharif to become the next PM of Pakistan. Sounds odd, but true because this small village is the ancestral home of the Sharif family.

The new Prime Minister of Pakistan has an Indian connection. Even as the two nations do not share a warm relationship, in a small bordering village of India, prayers are being conducted for Shehbaz Sharif to become the next Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Jati Umra, Amritsar

The bordering village in Amritsar, Jati Umra is a small but thriving village. People in the area gathered at the local gurudwara to pray for Shehbaz Sharif to become the next Prime Minister.

The Sharif family had emigrated from here to Pakistan after the separation, but they still visit this village. This village of Punjab in undivided India was a Hindu majority village. The only house here belonging to a Muslim was that of the Sharif family.

It is reported that the Sharif family is of Kashmiri origin. His father came to this village of Punjab from Anantnag. Shehbaz Sharif’s mother belongs to Pulwama.

After the partition, his father started a business in Lahore which grew with time. At present, Sharif’s Ittefaq Group is one of the largest industry groups in Pakistan.

After the Imran Khan government was removed, it was clear that Shehbaz Sharif will be the likely Prime Minister of Pakistan. This changed the complete atmosphere in the village. They are scornful that someone whose family belonged to this place is now going to head a country.
