Producer RS Srinivas said that the production house has picked up debutant director Santhu’s script, and Upendra, who will be directing the film, is currently working on the script to better match his style.

Initially, a short teaser of Adhira by the director caught the attention of producer Srinivas. Later, it was shown to Upendra, who was so impressed with the teaser, that it was decided to develop it as a full-length feature film. “We are planning to bring in established heroines for the movie, and for this, we have allocated a good budget and will zero-in on the names after consulting with Upendra. The process of finalizing the artists will be done after Pongal,” said Srinivas.

An accomplished actor and director, Upendra has won several awards in his long career, including Udaya Film Awards for Best Actor for the film ‘A’, Filmfare Award for Best Director – Kannada for the film ‘Upendra’, South Indian International Movie Awards for Best Actor for starring in ‘Katari Veera Surasundarangi’ and several others. He has proved his mettle as a director, producer and an actor.
A tryst with Politics
A popular star in the Kannada film industry, Upendra has enjoyed a huge fan following. In fact, he announced his entry into politics last year. While there were speculations that he would quit acting or take a break from acting permanently, he surprised his fans by inking several new film projects.
Directorial Comeback in 2010
Upendra came back as a director after a hiatus of 10 years in 2010 with the movie ‘Super’. The movie was released in a record number of theatres all over Karnataka and was also dubbed into Telugu and released in Andhra Pradesh. The Utopian film, set in a futuristic India, tells the story of an NRI who, through political manipulations, helps India become a superpower in 2020. ‘Super’ was a blockbuster, breaking many box office records upon release and completing 175 days of run, becoming one of the highest grossing Kannada films of 2010 and was also critically acclaimed.
Love from other stars
Upendra’s movie ‘A’ won accolades from Bollywood personalities like Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor. In 2011, Tamil actor Rajinikanth had attended a private screening of ‘Super’ in Bengaluru. Rajinikanth watched the film along with Upendra and a couple of his friends. “Upendra is a great actor and director. There is hardly anyone in Indian Cinema, who would think like him. Only he can think like that. I like watching Upendra’s films and this was no exception.
