The petition also names Twitter as a respondent in the case.

Deshmukh told India Today TV “Twitter Inc has been added as a respondent in the case for not taking any action against her Twitter account and not following its own rules and community guidelines on suspending accounts which spread hatred, extremism, racism in the country despite having sent a complaint by me to their grievance officer on their email ID to do the same.” The petition seeks that Twitter should be ordered to follow its own rules on hate speech.

Deshmukh, in his petition, has also pointed to various derogatory tweets by Kangana Ranaut against the judiciary as well. The lawyer had earlier filed a complaint at the Andheri magistrate court against Kangana Ranaut’s social media posts after Mumbai Police failed to act on his complaint. During the hearing of the complaint in October end, the magistrate had directed Mumbai Police to file a report on the matter.

On Tuesday, an advocate in Punjab’s Zirakpur had sent a legal notice to Kangana Ranaut over her tweet falsely identifying an elderly woman at the farmers’ protest in Delhi as one of the dadis of the Shaheen Bagh protest. In the notice, the advocate has demanded an apology from Kangana Ranaut in seven days.

Apart from this, a court in Mumbai had on October 17 directed the police to file a first information report against Kangana Ranaut and sister Rangoli Chandel for allegedly trying to create communal tension through their tweets and interviews.
