Imran Khan Writes To PM Modi For Talks And India Is In No Mood To Entertain Pakistan

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was earlier not invited in the swearing ceremony of Narendra Modi which was held in the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. This act, therefore, showed the strict mentality of the Indian Government over the Kashmir issue and housing terror over Pakistan. However, now the Pakistani PM has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that he wants talks to resolve all reconcilable problems, including the Kashmir issue, a Pakistani media report said on Friday.

Imran’s appeal to Modi

In a letter to Narendra Modi, Khan congratulated him on his second term as the Prime Minister of India, he said, talks between the two nations were the only solution to help both countries people overcome poverty and that it was important to work together for regional development. Khan also said in the letter, Pakistan desires the resolution of all problems, including that of the Kashmir issue.

On May 26, Imran Khan spoke to Narendra Modi congratulating him on the massive electoral victory in the general elections and expressing his desire to work with him towards the advancing the objective of peace, progress, and prosperity in South Asia.

Letter to External Affairs Minister

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has also written to new External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, where he congratulated him and maintained similar views as Khan. Qureshi’s letter also arrived earlier this week, said sources. Shah Mehmood Qureshi told S Jaishankar in the letter that “Islamabad wants talks with New Delhi on all important matters and remains committed to efforts for establishing peace in the region,” the Express Tribune reported quoting diplomatic sources.

This comes days before the two Prime Ministers are scheduled to be in the Kyrgyz Republic’s capital, Bishkek, for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit on June 13 and 14. While the MEA spokesperson maintained that no meeting is being planned or organized to the best of his knowledge, sources did not rule out the possibility of a “pull-aside” meeting between the leaders.

PMO’s reaction

As for the situation, India has rejected Pakistan’s offer of any bilateral talks, maintaining that terror and talks cannot go together. Therefore, no bilateral meeting has been planned between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek, S Jaishankar the External Affairs Ministry said on Thursday in New Delhi.
