Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had called for a meeting with the police department addressing the difficulties of the current lockdown. Bhaskar Rao, the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner was seen coming out of the meeting teary-eyed.
So far, the Karnataka State has recorded 55 confirmed cases out of which 50 are still active. While it has been successful in taking measures early, the police department is finding it difficult to contain the people inside their homes. As a result, the police are facing heat from the general public on roads and even on twitter.
The meeting called by the Chief Minister had top officials of the state including Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayana and the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao. Among the range of issues discussed, particular issues of the supermarket and delivery boys have said to triggered heated debate between the Deputy Chief Minister and the Commissioner.
Heated Argument between Commissioner and DCM
Ashwath Narayana accused the Bengaluru police of accepting bribes by the supermarket in order to let them open for business. Bhaskar Rao reportedly questioned the claim and asked for the proof to back it up. In response to that, the Deputy Chief Minister is said to have the video proof.
Following that, Ashwath Narayana also asked the Bengaluru Commissioner to hand over more number of passes to the delivery boys as the crisis demands so. Apparently Bhaskar Rao opposed this idea which led to a debate between the two. According to the reports, the debate reached a point where the Deputy Chief Minister disrespected the Police Commissioner after which the latter stormed out of the meeting with tears in his eyes.
The Lockdown is a testing time for the Police department. While there are a few services that are allowed to function, many have taken advantage of it and have been on the streets for no reason. The Police earlier said that it would be providing curfew passes to people who are a part of the essential services. The essential services include medical professionals, vendors of groceries, vegetables and dairy products, banks, cargo goods carriers and delivery boys of online food services and restaurants.
