Tit-bit: Under the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited’s Phase 2 Project, Infosys foundation has come forward to fund Rs.200 crores for the proposed Konappana Agrahara Metro Station at Electronic City. The foundation will also maintain the tracks and station for 30 years after completion of the project.
In this context, Infosys’s chairperson Sudha Murthy met Chief Minister Kumaraswamy at his home office, Krishna. A memorandum of understanding between the Infosys foundation and BMRCL is said to be signed on July 19 as said by the Chief Minister Kumaraswamy on Saturday.
Win-Win Situation for Infosys and BMRCL
This association is said to be a win-win situation for both the company and BMRCL. Ajay Seth, managing director, BMRC said, “ A foyer or an entrance from the metro station to the IT park will make way for a hassle-free access to the metro.” As reported, Infosys will also provide the land for the metro station.
Mr. Seth added,
“It becomes important to link the metro with IT corridors like Electronic city as it helps people commuting to tech parks for work. Under the Innovative Financing Scheme, a green signal had been given by the State Government where companies will have an agreement with BMRCL to fund the project to construct a metro station near their campus.”
Agreement with IT Companies
In the past, the BMRC had an agreement with companies such as Intel Technology Pvt. Ltd., Embassy Group to fund the construction of metro stations at Kadubeesanahalli and Bellandur on the ORR line (Silk Board to KR Puram). As per the agreement, companies get naming rights, advertisement spaces at the metro stations for a certain period of time.
Infosys foundation has played a major in the education sector. In the past, it had donated a huge amount to the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology. Ms. Murthy had said in one of the interviews that the foundation wanted to be involved with the city’s metro project and now, it has come true for good.
