Two days after a 21-year-old woman was shot dead outside her college in Haryana’s Ballabhgarh, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday hit out at “jihadis” who “have no shame or any fear of law and order”.
Nikita Tomar, a student of B.Com final year, had exited her college after appearing for an exam on Monday afternoon when the accused, who were in a car, tried to pull her inside. When Nikita resisted, the key accused shot her, said police. The Haryana Police have arrested main accused Tausif, who hails from Sohna in Gurugram, and his aide Rehan, who is from Nuh.
As per Nikita’s father, Tausif had been harassing his daughter for the last two years and forcing her for marriage, which the woman refused. He further claimed that Tausif was trying to convert Nikita. “He should be given capital punishment and our family should be given security,” said the woman’s father.
Taking to Twitter, Kangana, in a series of tweets, hailed Nikita for not succumbing to the accused’s ‘intentions’. The actress further likened “Nikita’s bravery” with “Rani LaxmiBai or Padmavati”.
Dubbing Nikita as “Devi”, Kangana Ranaut said: “If she wanted to live she could have given in to his lust she chose to die instead, Devi Nikita rose for every Hindu woman’s dignity and pride”.
The Tanu weds Manu actress further urged the Government of India to bestow Nikita with a bravery award. It has now been revealed that the main accused was earlier a classmate of the woman.
The entire sequence of the crime was captured by someone over a mobile phone, as per which Tausif and his accomplice reach the college in the white-coloured car and park the vehicle on the road.
In the video, which has now gone viral on social media, Nikita and one her friends are seen walking on the road when the accused suddenly takes out a pistol and shoots her behind her ear from a close range.
Before anybody could react, the two accused escaped from the spot in their car. The incident led to huge protests on Tuesday evening with students and local residents blocking the Sohna-Ballabgarh road for several hours.
