Days after the trailer of Laxmmi Bomb released, won rave reviews, and broke the internet, the film and its lead actor, Akshay Kumar, have landed in trouble. Many Twitter users on Friday morning decided to troll the actor, alleging that his film promotes ‘love jihad’.

A section of netizens on Twitter opined that the film is promoting ‘love jihad’, since the name of Akshay’s character in the film is Aasif and Kiara Advani, who plays his wife in the movie, has been named Priya. The social media users raised objection to Akshay’s Muslim character romancing a Hindu girl on screen and demanded a boycott of the film.

A certain social media user wrote, “I don’t believe that @akshaykumar is also belongs too Bullywood jokers.. I thought that he might be different frm the others.. Now promoting love jihad. Plz RT #BoycottLaxmiBomb #ShameOnUAkshayKumar (sic).”

Alongside the tweet, the said social media user also shared a photograph wherein a part of it mentioned how the film is releasing on a Hindi festival, Diwali. “Why they r promoting LOVE JIHAD What culture they r promoting. #BoycottLaxmiBomb (sic).” A few others shared similar opinions on social media and flooded Twitter with tweets on the same line.

Actor and self-proclaimed film critic, Kamaal R Khan, also joined the trolls in trending the ‘Shame On U Akshay Kumar’ hashtag. KRK’s concern, however, was different. KRK is of the view that Akshay is “mocking” goddess Laxmi with the film’s title. “He is mocking Goddess #Laxmi by his film name. Can he keep name of his film #TwinkleBomb? #ShameOnUAkshayKumar,” read his tweet.

The massive trolling comes days after some netizens accused a Tanishq advertisement of promoting ‘love jihad’. The corporation ultimately pulled down the ad, keeping in mind “the hurt sentiments” and “well being” of its employees, partners and store staff.

Within minutes of the above-mentioned trend taking over, fans of Akshay also flooded social media with tweets backing the actor. #WeLoveUAkshayKumar started to trend on Twitter, with many showering Bollywood’s OG Khiladi with love and extending support to his film that is scheduled to release in November this year.
