The closedown sights to attract the government’s attention to their demand which asks for reservations for Kannadigas in jobs.
Auto, Ola, Uber Drivers’ and Owners’ Association president Tanveer Pasha said they decided to support the bandh following a request by the pro-Kannada organization.
“It was a collective decision of all taxi and auto union leaders,” he said.
A demand for reservation
Mahila Okkuta, a federation of women’s organizations, has also shown support to the shutdown, the sources said.
“We have not decided anything. We need to discuss how much reservation. Have to agree that some reservation should be there in DCE category. Class 1 category also needs reservation but it may vary.”When asked if the move could affect the services of Uber and Ola, both companies have refused to comment on it until the strike is finalized on the day,” said Prakash K, vice president of KSRTC staff and workers associations.
