Indian wicket-keeper batsman M.S. Dhoni sporting an Army insignia on his glove during the India-South Africa clash was well applauded by his fans and this incident was buzzing all over the internet. However, the International Cricket Council(ICC) seems to have a problem with this and have made a request on Thursday to the BCCI to have the badge removed, saying it is against regulations.
ICC making an unwanted request
The former Indian skipper was spotted with regimental dagger – Army Insignia or ‘Balidaan’ badge – of the Indian Para Special Forces on his wicket-keeping gloves while he stumped Phehlukwayo in the 40th over of the innings bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal.
Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager – Strategic Communications, told the media that the apex body has requested the Indian cricket board to have the sign removed.
“It is against the regulations and we have requested it is removed,” Furlong told the media.
When asked if Dhoni, who is an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of Territorial Army, could be penalized for the breach of an ICC regulation, she added: “For first breach no, just a request to remove”. India’s next game is against Australia on Sunday.
Dhoni’s fans reacted
The visuals of Dhoni’s tribute to the army forces earned him respect and love from the fellow Indians and tweets came in praising the former Indian skipper. Now it looks, the ICC’s request to have Dhoni’s army insignia removed has shown disapproval from his fans and they expressed their displeasure to the news by showing support to the Indian wicketkeeper. You can remove the army things from Dhoni's pad, cap, bat or Jersey.
.
But you can't remove Lt Colonel MS DHONI's love for the NATION from his heart. ??ā¤ļø#DhoniKeepTheGlove pic.twitter.com/PgW2OBq9Ht— DHONIsmā¢ ā¤ļø (@DHONIism) June 7, 2019
