After a long wait, Indian team fans witnessed their team playing their first game. Men in Blue starts the world cup campaign with a splendid victory over South Africa. Rohit Sharma’s sensible knock gave India an edge over the Proteas. However, there was an incident during the game which caught the attention of all the cricketing fans. Mahendra Singh Dhoni was seen sporting wicketkeeping gloves having the dagger insignia of the Indian Para Special Forces.
Dhoni’s gloves with ‘balidan’ badge
It all came in when team India was bowling in the first inning playing against South Africa on Wednesday, Dhoni stumped Andile Phehlukwayo as he couldn’t read the leg spin bowl delivered by Yuzvendre Chahal. In the meantime, Dhoni was spotted in the camera removing his gloves which had a symbol of Indian Para Special Forces also known as ‘Balidaan’(dagger insignia), which means sacrifice. After this incident, it got social media buzzing.
The ‘Balidaan’ badge can be worn by personnel who served in the Para Special Forces. In 2011, Dhoni was given an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel and he has undergone training for a brief period with the para regiment. The former skipper is believed to have done five parachute jumps during the training period.
Meanwhile, on stumping Andile Phehlukwayo have also helped Dhoni go past New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum in most dismissals inflicted in World Cups. Dhoni now has 33 World Cup dismissals to his name.
