As the world virtually strives in a phase of lockdown to combat the deadly coronavirus that was first reported in China, the World Health Organization has warned the countries against lifting the lockdown too soon.
The novel coronavirus that broke out in the Wuhan province of China has taken over the world and has massively dented the speed at which the world was progressing. It has been over 4 months since the virus was reported and up until now, there hasn’t been a vaccine or a treatment protocol yet. The authorities and the administration are learning as the situation progresses. There have also been learnings from the mistakes of other countries.
Cutting off travel from the affected countries was the first response from most countries and with time, they were forced to shut every mode of transport. While several countries like South Korea and Singapore have been proactive in terms of testing, India has gone into locking down its entire population of 1.4 billion. As India is peaking with the number of cases surging day after day, the new epicenter of the virus has been the United States of America and Spain.
WHO warns against easing off the lockdown
Countries that reported the cases of coronavirus soon after China are contemplating relaxing the lockdown. China, on 8th April, has lifted the lockdown restrictions from Wuhan, the index region of the virus. China is slowly returning to normalcy as there hasn’t been a massive influx of new cases of the virus. India is nearing the end of its 21 day lockdown period. A week back, the Cabinet secretary has said there haven’t been any plans to extend it.
The World Health Organisation, on Sunday, warned the countries against easing off the restriction of lockdown too early. The World Health Organisation Spokesperson, Christian Lindmeir said through a video briefing,
“One of the most important parts is not to let go of the measures too early in order not to have a fall back again. It’s similar to being sick yourself if you get out of bed too early and get running too early you risk falling back and having complications.”
