Amid the deepening crisis in the Maharashtra government, with a rebel group of over 40 Shiv Sena MLAs camping in a five-star hotel on the outskirts of Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was constantly blamed for busy focusing on the Maharashtra government when floods have hit Assam.
Assam Flood
The flood situation in Assam remained harsh on Thursday as seven more people, including two children, died in the last 24 hours. The flood has wreaked havoc in the state and the death toll has now surpassed 107, of which 17 people have died in the landslides.
According to reports, a total of 1,13,485.37 hectares of land have been impacted due to the calamity, whereas the ASDMA in its report further stated that at least 11,292 people have been evacuated from the affected areas.
Amid this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured people that Himanta Biswa Sarma and his government is working hard to battle out the situation. In a Tweet, he wrote, “CM @himantabiswa, Ministers of the Assam Government and officials are working round the clock in the districts and helping those who have suffered. I pray for the safety and wellbeing of all those in affected areas and once again assure all possible support.”

Political crisis
Meanwhile, there is a political crisis in Maharashtra. Several MLAs, led by Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, are camped at a hotel in Assam’s Guwahati, dropping the MVA government into a political crisis.
Himanta Biswa Sarma stepped into the Maharashtra political crisis when he visited the hotel hosting the rebel MLAs on Wednesday. The opposition leaders threw an attack on the CM for ignoring the flood situation in the state and indulging in politics. Former Congress leader and Kannada actress Divya Spandana aka Ramya wrote on Twitter and informed Prime Minister Modi that Himanta Biswa was not helping the people in Assam and is rather busy with Maharashtra politics.
She wrote mentioning the PM’s tweet, “No sir the CM is in Radisson Blu hotel in Guwahati with Sena MLA’s.”
