Amid debate over the next Indian National Congress president, speculations are getting strong that the Wayanad MP will return to rule the dynasty reign. The party sources have confirmed that the 49-year-old will return as the next Congress chief as there is no other suitable candidate to hold the party power.

Who will be the Next Congress Chief?

The grand old party is all set for an internal election for the post of Congress President this April. As it is facing a leadership problem these days, the party eyes to choose its next leader.

It was in 2017 when Rahul Gandhi was elected as Congress President with an unopposed decision, following demand from different portions of the party. However, the party faced a humiliating defeat in the 2019 General Elections as it got only 50 seats in the parliament. Besides, Congress even lost out to be called a proper Opposition.

Mr. Gandhi had no choice but to resign. In May, he took all the responsibility of poll failure and stepped down as Congress chief. Thereby, to save the sinking ship, it was then the party veteran Sonia Gandhi who took back the charge.

A vote out

In the present situation, the senior leader and the Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has expressed his views on calling for a vote for an unfinished leadership issue in Congress.

In a tweet, mentioning about Congress leaders Sandeep Dikshit and his views for the vote, he wrote, “What ⁦@SandeepDikshit⁩ said openly is what dozens of party leaders from across the country are saying privately, incl many w/ responsible positions in the Party. I renew my appeal toCWC to hold leadership elections to energize workers&inspire voters.”

He also said that the voting should be done by 10,000 AICC and PCC delegates to elect only the party chief but also the Congress Working Committee (CWC) member.

Earlier former MP Sandeep Dikshit had asked Congress veterans to have an out of the box view and think above Rahul Gandhi and start the process to end the leadership problem.

“Most of them, those who are in Rajya Sabha, those who have been former chief ministers, even some of our current CMs who are very senior, I think it is time for them to come up and go the extra mile for their party,” Dikshit said.

No one but Rahul Gandhi

However, few Congress leaders were not too satisfied with Tharoor or Dikshit’s statement. They believe that the one who is talking about the CWC should go and read the resolution which appointed Sonia Gandhi as Interim head of the party.

“It’s a pointless argument. No one from outside the family can lead Congress to this position. Mr. Gandhi, however, is the only leader who can manage the party and can save it. Other leaders are just a group leader & such leaders at the helm will encourage more groups. Period!” Maharashtra leader, Sanjay Nirupam said.

rahul gandhi apology

The party who is going through differing opinions over the leadership issue, most Congress leaders still argue that Rahul has acceptability across the country and also is capable to lead the party.

Much likely, they think that Rahul Gandhi is the only contender in the race for the president’s post because the entire rank and file of the party want him to lead, hinting that elections, in that case, may not even be significant.
