Last year, in November, the Supreme Court took a historic decision to give away the disputed land to the Hindu community. According to the court’s verdict, the Ayodhya land belonged solely to Lord Ram Lalla.

The Court had also ordered the central government to form a strategy with necessary preparations for the setting up of trust with a board of trustees or any other appropriate body.

Today Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally announced the formation of the Ayodhya temple trust in a speech he made in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday dates before the Delhi election. This decision comes just four days before the three-month deadline set by the Supreme Court to establish the trust.

“I am pleased to announce that in the cabinet meeting today morning, we took vital decisions on the Ayodhya trust. As per the orders of the Supreme Court, we have set up a trust. The Sri Ram Janma Bhumi Tirtha Shetra will be the name of the trust. It will be an independent body,” Modi said.
