Anushka Sharma has proved her mettle as one of the finest actors in the country with films like Band Baaja Baarat, NH 10, Dil Dhadakne Do among others. She also went to prove a good producer with a brilliant choice of Films like NH10, Pari, and even Patal Lok. She has been on the headlines with her latest feat as of this year.
Her production house Clean Slate Filmz has signed a deal worth $54 million with Amazon.com Inc and Netflix.Inc to produce films and web series worth that money. This comes in the backdrop of how content is well consumed online now with the advancement of the OTT in the pandemic and the raw nature of the content that these platforms provide.
The amount of the deal translates to about 400 crore Indian Rupees. Along with Anushka, her brother Karnesh is also spearheading the Clean Slate Filmz and has said that they will release eight films and series on these streaming platforms as well as some others in the next 18 months. He has also said that they are experimenting with new kinds of content and ideas for the same.
A spokesperson from Netflix also confirmed that they will be rolling out three upcoming productions with Clean Slate Filmz, while Amazon didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The projects that have been much spoken about can include the ‘Chakda Express’, a film based on cricketer Jhulan Goswami, a thriller series called ‘Mai’ and a drama series called ‘Qala’. Actor Irrfan’s son ‘Babil Khan’ will be debuting in their upcoming Netflix film ‘Qala’ which also stars actress Tripti Dimri who showed her talent in ‘Bulbul’.
“What has happened over a period of time is ambition is also going up within the studio systems,” Sharma said. “And that’s great for people like us.”
