India Better Placed With Just 3.8 Cases Per Million: Union Health Ministry

While addressing an international online conference on COVID-19 organized by Bennett University, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has said that, with 3.8 cases per million, India’s rate of infection is fairly low when compared to the other countries.

Cases in India doubling at the rate of 4.5 Days

Harsh Vardhan said that the COVID-19 cases in India are doubling at the rate of 4.5 days. He also added that, with just 3.8 cases per million, the country is well placed than many other countries in the world.

The importance of Social-Distancing

The Health Minister termed Social Distancing and Lockdown as “social-vaccines” and “potent weapons” which are being employed by the governments to curb the outbreak.

He stressed that while a vaccine, if and when it gets invented, can cure a people or two, Social Distancing is an efficient way to curb the virus on a social level and keep a section of the population safe.

133 Hotspots identified in the country

As many as 133 hotspots have been identified in the country, wherein, the possibility of community transmission and a larger outbreak is remotely possible. He said that these spots are being tackled with an ‘aggressive containment strategy’.

Harsh Vardhan urged the citizens of the country to support the health-care workers in their effort to curb the outbreak of the disease. He asked the people to stop misbehaving with these professionals in the best interest of the country.

He said that surveillance is being given utmost priority at this point in time. Screening and Testing are also two important steps in India’s fight against the disease.
