‘King Kohli’ helps Bengaluru police
The Bengaluru police were able to find the murderers of an 82-year-old woman thanks to the words “King Kohli” written on the back of an autorickshaw. According to police, the accused committed the crime in an effort to pay off debts.
Kamala N. Rao, also known as Kamalamma, a resident of Mahalakshmipuram, was found dead in her home earlier this week with her hands and feet tied and her mouth taped. Even though the incident was only discovered later, the police still think the murder occurred on May 27.
The Story
The accused were identified by investigators as Laggere residents Siddaraju C M, 34, plumber R Ashok, 40, and Kamakshipalya resident C Anjanamurthy, 33. This past Friday saw their arrest. According to DCP (North) Shiva Prakash Devaraju, the accused plotted and killed the elderly woman in an attempt to repay their debts.
“Ashok visited Kamala’s house for plumbing works and noticed that she was living alone. Her husband had passed away last October. A few days ago, he revealed it to the other accused at a bar. Siddaraju then agreed to rob Kamala’s gold ornaments to repay their debts,” sources told the publication.
On Anjanamurthy’s auto, the trio went to Kamala’s house to rob her. They initially succeeded in removing the vehicle’s license plate which had the words ‘King Kohli’ on the back side. As the area was crowded, they abandoned their plan. In their second attempt, they acted to be asking Kamala to rent the car shed so they could use it as a godown to store biscuits when they actually went to the house. The police added that while Kamala was eating the biscuits they had given her, she was dragged, strangled, and killed.
After nearby CCTV footage showed the accused’s movements, investigators were able to locate them. “We took the visuals near Kamala’s residence and noticed an autorickshaw doing several rounds on the same road during the morning. We found that the autorickshaw had the words ‘King Kohli’, but no registration number,” an officer said.
“We then followed its movements earlier that morning and CCTV footage showed Anjanamurthy removing the vehicle’s number plate. Soon, we found the autorickshaw’s registration number, and the arrests were made based on it. The words ‘King Kohli’ helped us zero in on the vehicle,” the officer added.
All of the accused were then detained by the police while they were in Mysuru. The investigation also revealed that Ashok had some debts and had lost money betting on the IPL.
