YouTube blogger Gaurav Wasan had posted a video of a local eatery in Delhi to create awareness about street vendors and local businesses suffering during the pandemic.
His video reached a plethora of people and thanks to the power of social media, the elderly couple’s dhaba ended up getting a lot of customers and money as donation.
Then, things took an ugly turn and Wasan was accused of an online scam and pocketing the funds which were sent to him as donations for the couple. To clear his name, he released his bank statement on his official Facebook page but it didn’t make much of a difference as social media users called the document, ‘heavily edited’.
Moreover, Baba Ka Dhaba’s owner, Kanta Prasad lodged a police complaint against the blogger. The 80-year-old eatery owner claimed that Wasan had cheated them. A case was registered against him under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code for allegedly misusing the funds received as donations.

Wasan denied all such allegations. Now, a video of him speaking to a radio channel about the controversy, is doing the rounds on social media. In the viral video, Wasan explained that he felt ‘torn’ and ‘cheated’ due to the allegations against him. He also said that he had ‘lost faith in humanity’ and doesn’t even know how to respond to the fact that Prasad said that he never invited the blogger to his eatery.

After listening to Wasan’s side of the story, several social media users have expressed the worry that this incident should not discourage others from helping those in need.
