Swachh Bharath Completes its 5 years yesterday on the occasion of Gandhiji’s 150th Birth anniversary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a crowd in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad where he mentioned that the country is fulfilling Mahatma Gandhi’s dream. He also stated that 133 crore citizens of the country are also responsible for making India clean. Taking this initiative to the next level, Bengalurians on Wednesday celebrated this occasion by collecting tonnes of plastic trash in the city in the long run.
Bengaluru Plog Run 2019
Thousands of Bengaluru citizens came out on roads in 43 areas for Plog Run 2019 which was organized on this occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. A marathon 7.5 tonnes of plastic waste was collected by the participants in support to Swachh Bharath Mission.
The plastic collected by the citizens will be handed over to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which will then be given to the airport department, who will use this plastic to build a road near the new Terminal 2.
Keeping the city clean
The number of Plastic collected from the area: Puttenhali 1,200 kg, Jayanagara IV Block 900 kg, RT Nagar 800 kg. The rest of the places like MG Road, Shantinagar, KR Puram, Iblur, and Kengeri were also among the areas covered by the long drive.
The event was backed by several groups like United Days India, Go, Native, Art of Living, Eart Day Network, Daan Utsav, Swachh Bharath Mission, Airbnb, FabHotels, PepsiCo, Hasiru Dala Innovations and WWF. The following event Highlighted: Cleanliness, recycling, and alternative waste management.
Deputy Chief Minister who also accompanied by BBMP chief BH Anil Kumar flagged the marathon from Mathikere. “Plogging should become a habit. It shouldn’t be a one-day event but an everyday practice. Keeping our city clean is a tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji,” said Narayan.
Prime Minister is proud
Addressing a crowd in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad PM Narendra Modi said, “I am satisfied that on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, we are witnessing the fulfillment of his dream of ‘Swachh Bharat’. I feel lucky that on this occasion when India has successfully implemented this mission.”
He said that his government has successfully provided toilets to more than 60 crore people in 60 months, the whole world is stunned at this achievement. “Today, the whole world is appreciating and awarding us. Providing toilets to more than 60 crore people in 60 months, building more than 11 crore toilets, the whole world is stunned by this,” PM said.
