This iconic spot doesn’t need any introduction because of various reasons. One of Bengaluru’s best south Indian breakfasts can be eaten here, and that too within a 100 rupees! The best of traditional south Indian food can be found here at Brahmins Coffee Bar. Be it the steaming hot rice idlis which are soft or the crispy vadas, you just can’t stop at one plate! Having earned an iconic status, it was started by KV Nagesh Rao in 1965. Here bring to you ten reasons to visit this place right away.
A family that sticks together makes great food!
The store is currently managed by his sons and grandson, with every family member making their own contribution. In fact, Nagesh Rao’s wife, KN Saraswathi, who is over 80 years old, still looks into the preparation of the chutney.
The Legend of the Tastiest Chutney
The main ingredient in that formula is their legendary chutney. KN Saraswathi (the founder’s wife) is still believed to supervise the preparation of the restaurant’s chutney every single day. It’s one of the many things that have remained constant at the restaurant. The chutney seems to be the glue that binds the menu; the restaurant does not serve sambar.
Best. Breakfast. Ever.
Soft and fluffy, the idlis almost melt in your mouth. One bite into the vada is all it will take to bowl you over. Super crispy on the outside and soft inside, Equally popular are their Khara Bath and Kesari Bath. Legend has it that, it is considered a crime if you leave the place without having their extremely refreshing coffee. Breakfasts here invariably ends with a glass of their frothy, strong filter coffee.
Straight from the coffee plantation
Sourcing their beans from the best coffee plantation in India, Chikmagalur, their coffee is legendary, and if you haven’t tried it yet, you have no idea what you’re missing out on. Made with precision and a tried and tested recipe, their coffee is something none of us can get over.
Pioneering the culture of ‘Stand Only’ eateries
Filmmaker and Bengaluru history buff Adarsh NC believes that it was Brahmin’s that spawned Bengaluru’s countless Darshini ‘standing only’ diners. The first Darshini restaurant – Uphar Darshini, is not far away from Brahmin’s Coffee Bar. It was a paradigm shift in the eating-out scene. Until the success of Brahmin’s and the other chains thereafter, standing and eating a meal was almost unthinkable in Bengaluru.
The city’s bakeries were the only ‘grab and go’ spaces until then. Adarsh attributes part of the success to the establishment’s name – In the beginning this restaurant was the closest to eating home cooked food in an area where eating out was still considered taboo.
Short and Sweet
They started out with making just coffee, while sourcing bakery items for other nearby bakeries. Eventually, they incorporated a few South Indian items into their menu and have never looked back since then. Even today, their menu consists of only 3-4 items, besides tea and coffee – Idly, Vada, Kesari Bath, and Kara Bath. Each of these items is, however, made with love and care.
Word of Mouth
In a world of weird marketing gimmicks and fancy advertisements, this establishment has solely thrived on the word of mouth because of their loyal patrons. Such is the love for their outlet that it has been loved by Bengaluru for the past 50 years!
Home is where the heart is
In the era of home deliveries and restaurant reviews, home-cooked food has always been the best, and none of us can ever deny that. The family that owns Brahmin’s Coffee Bar prepare the basic ingredients at their home kitchen every morning because it makes sure that their quality remains unwavered at any cost.

What do we love as much as good food? Good food that goes easy on our wallets! At Brahmin coffee bar, you can enjoy a delicious, filling breakfast and top it off with coffee-all within 100 rupees! With such an affordable menu, they hardly give you a reason to walk away without a smile.
