Metropolitan Cities included in Red Zones

Metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru have been designated as red zones in the classification. The classification was announced following a video-conference chaired by the Cabinet Secretary with the Chief Secretaries and the Health Secretaries of all the states on April 30th.

A red zone is classified based on the number of active cases, doubling rate, extent of testing, and surveillance feedback from the districts. A district is demarcated as a green zone if there are no cases found in that particular district in the last 21 days. Districts that do not fall in either of these zones will be tagged as green zones.

While states will be allowed to graduate a particular district as a higher zone ( ie. from green to red ), they will not be allowed to lower the classification. The classifications will be updated on a weekly basis.
