The cricket world cup (CWC) 2019 is coming closer. In India cricket is not just a sport but is a religion and many cricket fans revere the cricketers as Gods. With the world cup to happen in a short time, speculations and predictions are already adrift.
Critics and former players have started coming out with their own comparisons and hot favorites. Former Indian cricket team captain Anil Kumble recently came out with his choice of 15 players for his CWC 2019 team.
Anil Kumble Picks His 15-Man Squad
The legendary spinner from Karnataka, Kumble recently revealed his 15-man squad for the World Cup from India. He also picked his first XI players for the quadrennial event. Since India is a leading contender for winning the world cup all these speculations really are being looked upon with great interest.
Even though Ambatti Rayudu is a part of the 15-member team of Kumble, he leaves him out from playing XI. Kumble gives the responsibility of batting at no. 4 to the veteran wicketkeeper and batsman MS Dhoni.
In the bowling department, the leg spinner has picked up Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. The pace attack for Kumble comprises of the regular trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Mohammed Shami.
For Kumble, Rishab Pant is the ideal option for back-up wicketkeeper whereas Khaleel Ahmed is the back-up seamer. As the second all-rounder, the Karnataka leg spinner favors Vijay Shankar over Ravindra Jadeja because Shankar has shown consistent performance in the recently concluded Australian ODI series.
Kumble Selects Obvious Players For Top-Order
For his CWC 2019, Kumble favors the obvious top-order players which include Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvi, Chahal, Kuldeep, Bumrah, and Shami.
While talking to the media, Kumble said, “In the middle order I will still back an Ambati Rayudu who can be your 13. 14 & 15. I would still want a fast bowler because you have, it’s a long World Cup… So going by that 3 fast bowlers Shami, Bumrah & Bhuvi need a backup. I would go with a Khaleel because he brings in the left arm seam option.”
He further added, ”Then you have the opener, do you need an opener? I won’t pick KL Rahul as an opener I would rather go with a middle order bat. I would back a Rishabh pant because he is young, he is talented, he can change the game on his day, so you would want an X factor & he can also give you a backup keeping option.”
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will start on May 30 where South Africa will take on England. India is a two-time world champion and will begin its conquest for the world cup 2019 against South Africa on June 5 in Southampton.
