Bengaluru: IT Companies Says No Plans To Move Out; Mahadevapura Tech Corridor To Be ‘Flood Free Zone’

IT Minister CN Ashwath Narayan recently arranged a meeting with the industry captains and took a closer look at the situation. Representatives of the IT companies and Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) explained their situations to him and urged the government to accelerate infrastructural improvements.

The problem caused due to rain

As several areas of Bengaluru remain submerged due to heavy rains, affecting the lives of the common man, the state government on Wednesday promised to make Mahadevapura tech corridor a ‘flood-free zone’ by the next monsoon.

“We will prepare a masterplan exclusively for the Mahadevapura area to ensure that such flooding incidents do not recur,” said CM Basavaraj.

Bommai paid a visit to a few rain-hit areas in Mahadevapura. He said the city’s drainage network had not been designed to cope with a large quantity of rainfall in a short span.

“Water was overflowing more than our highest flood level. Rajakaluves (stormwater drains) at several places have narrowed down. Those that were 30-meters wide have been reduced to 8-10 meters and, in some places, to as low as three meters. There have been encroachments on drains. There are 69 tanks in the Mahadevapura area and all are full and overflowing. Where will the water go if the drains are not wide enough to carry it?” he said.
