When an overnight downpour led to a crisis-like situation in the country’s IT hub, Twitterati did not hold itself back and started reacting to Bengaluru’s present situation.
Bengaluru’s present situation
Important areas of Bengaluru, which house some of the leading companies and posh apartment complexes, have been facing massive floods after heavy rainfall in the city. Localities like Bellandur, Whitefield, Sarjapur, HSR Layout, Kormangala, etc. are waterlogged creating a huge problem for commuters.
Videos have gone viral on social media where you can see main roads sunk in deep waters, floods inside housing societies, and office-goers struggling amidst flooded streets.
Meanwhile, Twitter was divided with mixed opinions regarding the flood situation in the city. While some shared sarcastic memes and questioned the authorities, some others blamed climate change for the situation in Bengaluru.
Here are some of the tweets:
Bellandur was a lake before 2 crore plus flats were built. Rainwater is too stupid to understand that it should not re enter a lake on which flats have been built. Natural stupidity. https://t.co/LMIp0Ql5j9

We cover every inch of our cities in concrete and then wonder why are our cities getting flooded!
Where do we expect the water to go?
There's no place, unless we also leave some space for earth with trees to soak and absorb the water.#BengaluruRain pic.twitter.com/xl1AON4r8Y

Don’t be daft enough to think that the scorching summer in Europe and flooding in Pakistan are due to climate change but #bengalururains are due the current govt’s approach to infrastructure. Combined with the La Niña effect what #Bengaluru is dealing with no city can cope

All our cities have seen construction without any regard to the natural flow of water. But it’s not just about that. Bengaluru has been receiving a lot more rainfall than usual. Climate change is here. And it’s only just begun.

The next climate change series on Netflix should be shot in Bengaluru.
Even apt for the category of "Effects of mindless real estate boom"

Not sure if the Bengaluru water logging can be blamed entirely on rain due to climate change.
Poor drainage preparedness, poor city planning etc etc— M (@pseudo_sapiens) September 5, 2022
As the Bengaluru city gets inundated, We all should accept that climate change is real and work for it because city can be yours!#bengalururains #Bengaluru #BengaluruRain https://t.co/MuaOEc1OrN

From cloudbursts it has moved to the level of Heaven burst !
Bengaluru Lakes are full , rain water has no place to go. Societies are stricken – with many having cars in their basement literally floating in the water.
No point in lamenting about Climate change https://t.co/pdlE3zfHrF— Shyam Prasad Rao (@ShyamPrasadRao1) September 5, 2022
We can see climate change in flooded streets daily. Lets work to mitigate and not aggravate it! @CMofKarnataka pls notify Hesarghatta as a conservation reserve, pristine, ecologically important habitats. https://t.co/cMeltYgekx @Jhatkaadotorg @conserve_ind #SaveHesaraghatta
