Night-long heavy rainfall brought havoc across Bengaluru leaving several parts of the city flooded with 3-4 feet of water and killing two laborers. According to reports, the city received above 100mm of rain, which started in the evening and amplified late last night.
114 mm of rainfall
According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data, Bengaluru witnessed more than 114 mm of rainfall in less than 12 hours resulting in the overflowing of almost all drains in all zones of the city.

Previously, the weather department had issued an orange alert in many parts of rural and urban Bengaluru predicting heavy rain for the next 4-5 days.

Two people got killed
Due to heavy rain and flood, two people got killed while working as laborers in Ullal Upanagar. The bodies of the two men – one from Bihar and another from Uttar Pradesh – were found at a pipeline work site, officials said.

“The dead have been identified as Devbharath from Bihar and Ankit Kumar from Uttar Pradesh. Around 5 pm yesterday, the rain intensified. The laborers were at the site, and around 7 pm the water levels rose. We are considering the safety measures taken on a daily basis there,” a police official said.
Areas Flooded
According to reports, areas in RR Nagar, Koramangala, Hoskerehalli, Horamavu, HBR Layout, Silk Board, and other parts of the city witnessed heavy flooding of stormwater into apartment complexes, houses, and layouts damaging houses.

Further, a report said that the highest rainfall of 155 mm was witnessed in Horamavu in Mahadevapura limits. Many apartments in Sai Baba Layout in Horamavu were flooded and residents had to spend the night on terraces.

“There are many low-lying areas in Bengaluru. The geographical terrain is such that after one point when it rains more, everything will come downward. They have built homes next to Raja Kaluve (stormwater drains) and there is a situation in which water has nowhere else to go,” chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said after visiting Hosakere Halli.
“Rs 25,000 compensation to be given for houses which were flooded due to heavy rains in Bengaluru. Rs 5 lakh solatium to be given to families of two laborers who were found dead at a pipeline work site in West Bengaluru’s Ullal,” CM Basavaraj Bommai announced.
