‘Many False Things Shown In ‘The Kashmir Files”: Omar Abdullah

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah lashed out at Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’, accusing the film of showing dishonesty based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in 1990.

Director Vivek Agnihotri’s hit film, ‘The Kashmir Files’, which, is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the 1990s, continues to receive severe criticism.

On the latest, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, has pulled up the movie for showing “half-truths and false things”.

“Many false things have been demonstrated in ‘The Kashmir Files’ movie,” he said.

BJP government during the 1990s

Omar indicated that Farooq Abdullah was not the Chief Minister at that time, contrary to the film which showed an NC government, he argued. Instead, Governor rule was imposed in the state, he added. Omar also claimed that it was a BJP backed VP Singh’s Government in the Centre during that time.

“Why wasn’t VP Singh’s government and BJP showed in the film. It is not right to play with realities. We condemn the killings of Kashmiri Pandits.

He further argues that it was not only Kashmiri Pandits who had relocated and had been killed during that time but Muslims and Sikhs too had faced the situation. “Muslims and Sikhs have also migrated from Kashmir and they haven’t returned yet,” he said.

Later, the National Conference working president, took to Twitter to reiterate his statement. “The pain & suffering of 1990 & after can not be undone. The way Kashmiri Pandits had their sense of security snatched from them & had to leave the valley is a stain on our culture of Kashmiriyat. We have to find ways to heal divides & not add to them.”
