As per the sources, the infamous and controversial chat show Koffee With Karan hosted by Karan Johar is likely to come to an end.
Arguably the most-watched and talked about chat show of the country, Koffee With Karan will finally come to an end after seeing several glorious seasons. The channel which was airing the show, Star World, is likely to go off air and will take Koffee With Karan along with it. A source close to the show revealed,
“Plans to shut down Star World were afoot for some time now. And Star had decided to move Karan Johar’s chat show to another channel owned by the group. But now with all the unsavory controversy surrounding the chat show after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, Star has decided to close it down.”
The show had its fair bit of controversy with episodes featuring Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhat, and most recently Hardik Pandya. Post the Hardik Pandya episode, both him and KL Rahul were penalized by the cricket board for their behavior on the show. The stars are also reluctant to come on the show for its nature. In one of the episodes, Ranbir Kapoor had said,
“I told him (Karan) I don’t want to come. I and Anushka actually going to protest and get the entire film industry together to stop this because it’s not fair. He’s making money out of us. We come and we get screwed through the air. It’s not right.”
Sushant Singh Rajput Controversy
The show had recently received flak after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput after a clip from the old episode went viral. In the clip, for one of the questions, Alia Bhatt was seen saying,
“Sushant Singh Rajput, who?”
A Superstar had once revealed to a media house that he was forced to come on the show because of his wife and the questions were predecided in a way to spark controversies. Meanwhile, post the massive outrage against him, Karan Johar has reportedly quit the board of Mumbai Academy of Moving Images. However, the chairperson of the Board, Deepika Padukone is making her efforts to change his mind.
