Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, on Monday, issued a statement about the sacrifice of 20 Indian Army Personnel in Galwan valley. In the statement, Singh has said that the Prime Minister should be mindful of the implication of words he uses.
In the wake of the sacrifice of 20 Indian personnel at the eastern Ladakh region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for an all-party meeting on Friday to discuss the intensifying issue. A statement of the Prime Minister erupted controversy. The Prime Minister was reportedly quoted by news agencies saying that there was no Chinese intrusion and no Indian post was captured by the Chinese army. A day later, the Prime Minister’s Office issued a clarification and said that it was the mischievous interpretation of the statement. Singh in his statement said,
“At this moment, we stand at historic crossroads. Our government’s decisions and actions will have serious bearings on how future generations perceive us. Those who lead us to bear the weight of a solemn duty. And in our democracy that responsibility rests with the office of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister must always be mindful of the implications of his words and declarations on our nation’s security as also strategic and territorial interests.”
This was the first time the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh spoke after the violent clash took place. He further wrote,
“The Prime Minister cannot allow them [China] to use his words as a vindication of their position and must ensure that all organs of the government work together to tackle this crisis and prevent it from escalating further.”
Manmohan Singh Condemns China
Singh also condemned China of brazenly and illegally claiming the parts of the Indian territory of Galwan Valley and Pangong Tso lake. He also wrote,
“This is a moment where we must stand together as a nation and be united in our response to this brazen threat. We remind the government that disinformation is no substitute for diplomacy or decisive leadership. The truth cannot be suppressed by having pliant allies spout comforting but false statements.”
The former Prime Minister also asked the present government to rise to the occasion to ensure justice to the martyred soldiers.
