All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi has said that the COVID-19 lockdown currently in place, is “unconstitutional” and is against “federalism”.
Lockdown 4.0 to be announced soon
On Tuesday night, PM Narendra Modi appeared in front of the citizens and spoke on a variety of topics, including that of lockdown extension. Modi announced that the lockdown will be extended, albeit with redesigned rules, the details of which would be announced before May 18th.
Owaisi calls lockdown unconstitutional
In an online public meeting on Monday, the AIMIM President said: “This lockdown is unconstitutional. The Government of India cannot bring lockdown in the entire country under the National Disaster Management Act, Epidemic Act. This is against federalism. This is a state subject. I don’t know why state governments are silent.“
He also said that the current lockdown is unplanned
The controversial leader further added that the current lockdown is unplanned, and felt that the BJP Government must have taken more organized steps to arrest the virus. Citing the recent incident of 16 migrant workers being run over by a goods train, Owaisi said that this section of the society is in complete distress.
Observing that plenty of migrant workers were walking thousands of kilometers to their home towns, Owaisi questioned the efforts of the concerned authorities to resolve the issue.
Concluding his message, Owaisa said that social distancing is a powerful weapon against the Coronavirus, and also suggested that all patients must be treated without any hate.
