Death warrant
Delhi court on Tuesday issued a death warrant for the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case. The verdict comes during the hearing of a plea seeking the issuance of a ‘black warrant‘ against the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case. The convicts will be hanged on January 22 at 7 am.
Judge Satish Kumar Arora issued the warrant at the request of the police and the victim’s mother who is been waiting to see this day from the past 7 years. Akshay, Vinay, Pawan, and Mukesh – who are on the death row for gang-rape.
One of the six who were on the bus got off smoothly because he was not an adult. Another purportedly committed suicide in jail. The remaining four were convicted and sentenced to death in 2017.
Justice delivered
The Supreme Court had confirmed the death penalty awarded to one of the four convicts, Akshay in the gruesome case after it dismissed his case which asked a review of its 2017 judgment. The Supreme Court said the review petition was not “re-hearing of appeal over and over again” and it had already recognized the mitigating and aggravating circumstances while upholding the death penalty.
On July 9 last year, the top court had dismissed the review pleas filed by the other three convicts Mukesh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma in the case, saying no grounds have been made out by them for the review.
“My daughter has got justice. Execution of the 4 convicts will empower the women of the country. This decision will strengthen the trust of people in the judicial system. I thank every child of this country and the media who stood strong with me. Jan 22 is going to be a big day for me. I had faith in the system and justice has been finally served,” Asha Devi, mother of 2012 Delhi gang-rape victim.
What is a black warrant?
