Rahul Gandhi freshly comes out to protest against the National Population Register (NPR) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). This time the former Congress president compares the new law with the demonetization. He believes that the poor citizens in the country will experience the same way they did after the note ban in November 2016.

NRC, NPR Are An Attack On Poor Citizens

The 49-year-old inaugurated a three-day national tribal dance festival in Chattisgarh’s Raipur. And while visiting the airport, the Congress leader addressed the media after attending the inaugural function.

On asking about NPR’s link with NRC, Mr. Ghandhi said, “Whether NPR or NRC, it is a tax on poor people of the country. You know demonetization. It was a tax on poor people. Go to banks and give your money but do not withdraw money from your account. Entire wealth went to the pocket of 15-20 rich people. This (NPR or NRC) is the same thing,” he said.

He further accused PM Modi and claimed that he can’t understand the problems of poor people and the country’s time is being wasted.

“Poor people will have to go to officers and show their documents and give bribe. They will have to give a bribe if there is a small mistake in their names. Crores of rupees will be dragged out of the pockets of the poor and will be given to the same 15 people. This is the truth. It is an attack on the people,” he said.

Demonetization is the real deal

Criticizing the BJP government for the economic slowdown, Rahul blamed demonetization to be the main reason for the economic slowdown.

“Although the economy earlier grew at nine percent, it has now declined to four percent, that too if measured through a new technique. If we measure the growth rate through the old method, then it will just be 2.50 percent. Poor people are asking that after robbing them of their entire money, what have they received in return,” he said.

“The money of poor people and farmers was snatched after demonetization. Ten to fifteen people of the country were benefited from Rs 3.50 lakh crore…Nobody is buying anything and factories are getting shut. It’s simple economics. It seems PM is not able to understand it,” he said.
