Will Turn Bengaluru’s VV Puram Food Street Into A Model Street Says Tejasvi Surya

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated his 69th Birthday, VV Puram, the popular food street in Bengaluru will be turned into the plastic-free zone, following PM’s motive to remove single plastic usage in India. The Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya on Tuesday directed the local shops and food vendors to avoid plastic bottles, paper cups, and non-decomposable plates to make the street eco-friendly.

VV Puram to go Plastic free

A very well known place for the epicures in the city, the VV Puram food street will turn into an eco-friendly zone. Bengaluru South Constituency Tejasvi Surya, who lead this action, encouraged vendors and visitors to corporate with this friendly makeover. He said, “VV Puram food street is the treasure of South Bengaluru. This place wistfully has issues of garbage dumping, use of single-use plastic and hygiene conditions. We have chosen to represent this a plastic-free zone. There will be no usage of single-use plastic from now.”

On Monday, Surya said that he will look towards modifying the VV Puram streets on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s Birthday. In a series of tweets he tweeted, “ Tomorrow, on the occasion of PM Shri Narendra Modi’s birthday, we’ll work towards transforming VV Puram Food Street into Model Street. Join us tomorrow at 6: 30 pm to celebrate this day with a safety and hygiene pledge and try to modernize the ancillary facilities there.”

Actions taken to make it a model street

Foodies in the street have been advised to abstain from using plastic bottles, paper cups, and non-decomposable leaf plates as an initial step. The food vendors in the street have been recommended that food should be served only in steel plates or other reusable material.

The BBMP health inspectors have also been asked to cancel the license of stalls failing to comply with the standards and laws in place.

Along with this, drinking water in water containers will be made available for all customers. And most importantly, from 7 pm to 11 pm, the VV Puram street will be made available for only foot-traveler as vehicles will be prohibited.
