The “coolest” captain of the Indian cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni is now gearing up to play first innings as Lieutenant Colonel, the Honorary rank bestowed by the Indian Army on him way back in 2011. The former skipper recently was in the news when he opted out of the upcoming series of India against West Indies as he has committed that time to the Territorial Army.

Dhoni To Undertake Patrolling & Guard Duty

The Indian Army has confirmed that MSD will be undertaking duties like patrolling, guard and post duty while serving with his battalion in Jammu and Kashmir.  In its statement, the Indian Army says, “Lieutenant Colonel (Honorary) MS Dhoni is proceeding to 106 TA Battalion (Para) for being with the Battalion from 31 Jul-15 Aug 19.”

According to the official statement, Dhoni will be on duty in the Kashmir Valley for 16 days and will be a part of the Victor Force. It means that Mahi will be one of the few cricketers who will be actually actively doing duty in the Army after holding such honorary ranks within the armed forces.

Dhoni To Protect Citizens, Says Army Chief General

While speaking to the media on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Army Chief General, Bipin Rawat said that MS Dhoni will not need protection because now a cricketer will be protecting the citizens of the country.

Rawat added, “Well when a citizen of India dons the military uniform he also has to be prepared to fulfill the task for which the uniform has been assigned to him. I think MS Dhoni has carried out his basic training. We know he will be able to accomplish the task. In fact, he will be protecting a lot of other people because now he will be performing with the 106 Infantry Battalion Territorial Army of the Parachute Regiment.”
