The New Education Policy 2019 submitted to the Modi government recently has created quite an uproar among the South Indians. Kannadigas are upset over the recommendation by the policy to make Hindi compulsory in Karnataka as well as in all the other non-Hindi speaking states. Tamil Nadu was the first S.Indian state to react to the policy as its politicians came out in the open speaking against the recommendation.
Kannadigas Take To Twitter To Protest
The Kannadigas instead are using the Twitter platform to protest against this new policy and have termed it as “imposition of Hindi.” However, the Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar has said that the policy is not final and that the decision is yet to be finalized and is awaiting feedback from the public.
Javedekar further added, “The Narendra Modi-led BJP government has no intention of imposing any language on anybody and wants to promote all Indian languages.”
NEP has said that students from Hindi-speaking states will study English and Hindi along with any one of the modern languages that are spoken in other parts of the country. On the other hand, students from the non-Hindi speaking states will have to study Hindi along with their regional language and English.
The recommendation says that a student can change the language during his middle school term on the condition that he has achieved the expected proficiency level in all the three languages in modular board examinations during his secondary school term.
Kannadigas Fuming On Social Media
The imposition of Hindi as one of the compulsory languages has not gone well with residents of Karnataka. Many of them are using the Twitter platform for voicing out their displeasure.
Check out some of the tweets that reveal the feelings of social media users from Karnataka:
He did not get any support from us Kannadigas. Kannada people are just as nationalistic in their thoughts as anyone else.
Note: Please do not impose Hindi on us. We love our mother tongue. We remain patriots irrespective of the language we speak.— Praveen ಪ್ರವೀಣ್ (@Praveen_A_V) May 27, 2019
You have been elected to safeguard the interests of Kannadigas and not to impose Hindi or sanskrit through your tweets. If you are so fond of Hindi or Sanskrit resign and get elected from one of the BIMARU states.

The new generation Kannadigas have realized the evil design of Hindi imposition and therefore you see a lot of resistance nowadays. Impose Hindi and hindians will continue to dominate and rule Kannadigas, Tamilains, Marathis politically.

Kannada,Tamil,Telugu and Malayalam are all historically more superior languages than Hindi. So we don't want any foreign language to erase our languages in the South. South India rejects Hindi forever.#StopHindiImposition #HindiLanguage #HindiImposition
