Manisha Koirala, who has appeared in films such as Indian, Bombay, and Aalavandhan, says her career in the south film industry ended after she appeared in Rajinikanth’s 2002 release Baba.

Rajinikanth’s film ended my career

Manisha Koirala has worked in a variety of films including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and others. She has received numerous awards for her outstanding performances in her acting career. She’s a filmmaker (1999) and recently revealed that Rajinikanth’s Tamil film Baba’s disastrous failure ended her career in the South.

In a new interview with the YouTube channel O2 India, Manisha spoke about her south career and how the 2002 film Baba affected her profession. “Baba was probably my last big Tamil film. It flopped so badly in those days. It was such a huge disaster. A lot of expectations were on the film and when it flopped, I thought my career in South films was gone completely and it did in a way. Before Baba, I was getting multiple South films. After Baba flopped, I stopped getting offers,” she said in a video clip.

Interestingly, Baba, directed by Suresh Krissna, was re-released in theatres last year on Rajinikanth’s birthday and performed well at the box office. Manisha expressed her delight that Baba had become a hit after 20 years.

“Strangely, the film turned out to be a hit when it was re-released which is unheard of. Rajini sir can never give a flop. He is such a kind man to work with,” she said.

Rajinikanth played Baba, a carefree young atheist who discovers he is the reincarnation of a great saint from the Himalayas.

On the work front, Manisha was recently seen in Karthik Aaryan’s Shehzada, the Hindi remake of Allu Arjun’s Telugu blockbuster Ala Vaikuntapuramlo (2022). She will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix web series Heeramandi later this year.
