Rishab Shetty maintained silence after he was asked if Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth was part of the upcoming Kannada film Kantara 2. The buzz is strong that Hombale Films is planning a film with Thalaiva.
Kantara 2 will have Rajinikanth?
Rishab Shetty rose to fame after the massive success of Kantara. The film went on to gross over Rs 400 crore worldwide and won critical acclaim. Hombale Films, the studio behind mega-hits Kantara and the K.G.F. franchise, has confirmed that Kantara 2 will be a prequel that goes into the backstory of the folklore that features in the first film.
Kantara actor and director Rishab Shetty is currently scripting the highly-anticipated Kannada film, which will have a greater budget this time. The film is set to go on floors in mid-2023. Shetty will again star in and direct the film.
When asked for more details about the prequel, Rishab Shetty told the ‘Karnataka Film Journalists’ Association’, “We are researching for the script. Preliminary work is underway. In the prequel, the audiences are in for plenty of surprises, he promised. Even the film’s genre will be different, he said.
Surprisingly, the actor kept mum when asked if Superstar Rajinikanth would play a role in Kantara 2.
The rumors of Rajinikanth playing an important role in Kantara 2 ignited after Hombale Films sent out a Birthday wish to the actor on its official social media handles. The Kannada production house is known to post birthday wishes for actors and technicians associated with their team, so netizens believed that the Tamil superstar was set to return to Kannada cinema with Kantara 2.
Happy birthday #Thalaiva @rajinikanth.

The buzz was that Rajinikanth would play an older version of Rishab’s character Shiva’s father’s role. In Kantara, Rishab played both father and son, given that the former disappears when Shiva is still a young lad.
And the most surprising thing is, Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ shoot is going on in Mangaluru as the team is shooting some action scenes at the same place where Kantara was shot.
According to TOI, Rajinikanth, and Kannada, actor Shivarajkumar have reached Mangaluru to finish off their combined portions in this quickie schedule. The shooting of the movie is going on at a private house in Pilikulaj Gutthu, Mangaluru where the scenes on Rajinikanth, Shivarajkumar and Sadhu Kokila are being canned.
Reportedly, this house has become a big interest in recent times as Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara’ was shot in this house. Post the release of ‘Kantara’, this house has become a hub for film shootings and ‘Jailer’ featuring Rajinikanth being shot in this house has grabbed huge headlines and people are thronging to this place to see Rajinikanth and Shivarajkumar shooting.
