Vidya Raini, daughter of Sandalwood smuggler Veerappan has joined the Bharathiya Janatha Party in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri city. The event was attended by party General Secretary Muralidhar Rao and former Union minister Pon Radhakrishnan.
Rani Joining BJP
Including, Rani there were other 1,000-odd members from other political parties that chose to join BJP. The 29-year-old informed that she has been considering this decision for the last two years.
“I want to work for the poor and underprivileged irrespective of their caste and religion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s schemes are for the people and I want to take them to the people,” said Rani.
Want to serve the people
A lawyer by profession, Vidya has been an effective social worker. After joining the party she said her father too wanted to serve people, but the way he chose was wrong. She said she joined the saffron party to serve the people and the nation.
She is the elder daughter of Veerappan and she has been in the headline after the Tamil Nadu high court had intervened to allow her to marry her boyfriend after her mother Muthulakshmi opposed to their wedding.
