Post-Covid lockdowns, Bollywood films strumbled a lot to collect big numbers at the box office. Big-budget films, despite having big names and huge budgets, couldn’t draw the audience to the theatres.
This year the South film industry has emerged as more profitable than Bollywood. Films like Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise, Ram Charan, and Jr NTR’s RRR Yash’s K.G.F: Chapter 2 and Rishab Shetty’s Kantara have wreaked havoc at the box office.
At the same time, major Bollywood films have bombed the box office. As the year comes to an end, let us take a look at some of the biggest Bollywood flops of 2022.
Dhaakad
Kangana Ranaut’s action entertainer Dhaakad was one of the biggest failures of 2022. The film was hailed as an action thriller and its premise revolved around international human trafficking. However, the Razneesh Ghai directorial tanked at the box office and couldn’t recover its budget of Rs 85 crore.
Laal Singh Chaddha
Laal Singh Chaddha was glorified as Aamir Khan’s greatest comeback on the silver screen after his last film Dangal. The movie was an official remake of the Academy Award-winning Hollywood film, Forrest Gump. However, Aamir’s film flopped at the box office and shocked several trade analysts. Even the beautiful chemistry between Aamir and Kareena Kapoor Khan couldn’t recover the film’s budget of Rs 186 crore.
Samrat Prithviraj
This film starring Akshay Kumar was made on a big scale. In the film, Akshay played the role of Samrat Prithviraj and was made on a budget of Rs 175 crore. However, the film was written off by both critics and audiences alike and could only earn Rs 68 crore in India.
Cirkus
Before the release of his latest film Cirkus, Rohit Shetty appeared quite confident in his film. But after the release, the Sooryavanshi Director is dumbfounded and clueless about this negative reaction from the audience. Circus is said to be made with a budget of Rs 115 cr and looking at the current Box Office of the film, the Ranveer Singh starrer won’t last long in theaters.
Heropanti 2
Directed by Ahmed Khan, the film starred Tiger Shroff, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Tara Sutaria in the lead roles. Unfortunately, the film mostly received negative reviews from critics. Despite being released on the Eid 2022 weekend, the film was a box office failure.
Jayeshbhai Jordaar
Actor Ranveer Singh’s romantic comedy film also starred south actors Shalini Pandey and Boman Irani in key roles. Ranveer’s film received mostly positive reviews, however, it failed to attract crowds in theatres.
Bachchan Pandey
Starring Akshay Kumar, Arshan Warsi, and Kriti Sanon the movie did not make too much impact in the box office collection. The film couldn’t attract movie-buffs to the theatres and the producers had to face huge losses.
Shamshera
Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt starrer Shamshera is a period-action thriller that failed at the box office despite having the ‘Brahmastra’ actor in a double role. Helmed by Karan Malhotra the film was one of the most anticipated films of 2022 but it failed to attract crowds in theatres.
Raksha Bandhan
It was a tough year for Akshay Kumar in the film industry. The Khiladi of Bollywood gave his third consecutive flop of the year with Raksha Bandhan. The social drama, made on a budget of Rs 100 crore, could only collect even Rs 45 crore at the box office.
Goodbye
Vikas Bahl’s family drama boasted a stellar cast that included Rashmika Mandanna, Amitabh Bachchan, and Neena Gupta. However, the film couldn’t attract movie-buffs to the theatres. Goodbye could only collect Rs 10 crore at the box office.
Thank God
The film helmed by Indra Kumar starred Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra, and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles and was released during the Diwali 2022 weekend. The film got mixed reviews from critics and failed to become a box-office success.
Jersey
The Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer film was a remake of a superhit Telugu film and Shahid was praised for his amazing performance in the film. However, KGF Chapter 2’s massive run at the theaters spoiled Shahid’s party.
Runway 34
Despite having legendary actors like Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan, the film was a box office failure. Ajay’s third directorial film got positive responses from the critics but still couldn’t mint huge numbers at the box office.
